National Cadet Corps (NCC)
The National Cadet Corps came into existence under the National Cadet Corps Act, 1948 under the Ministry of Defence (MoD). NCC, the largest uniformed youth organization in the world, has over a period of time, carved a niche for itself as a unique organization in ‘Nation Building’ and grooming the youth of our country. The cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parade. The NCC provides exposure to the cadets in a wide range of activities, with a distinct emphasis on Social Services, Discipline and Adventure Training.

Aims
- Develop Character, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country
- Create a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose
- Provide a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth and thus to take up a Career in the Armed Forces
Pledge
We the cadet of the national cadet corps, do solemnly pledge that we shall always uphold the unity of India. We resolve to be disciplined and responsible citizen of our nation. We shall undertake positive community service in the spirit of selflessness and concern for our fellow beings.
NCC (Army Wing) in St. Aloysius College, Edathua
The NCC Army Wing has started in St. Aloysius College, Edathua in 1966 under 15K Bn Thiruvalla. S. Lt. Joseph Cyriac, Lt. J George, Capt T.D. Thomas and Capt. Sajeev Joseph commanded the NCC sub unit of the college previously. Currently Lt. Dr. Jubin Antony commands the subunit.
The subunit has an authorised strength of 160. Both boys and girls can join the subunit. A Senior Under Officer (SUO) selected from the senior batch leads the subunit in parades and other activities. There are 3 Under Officers (UO) and 1 Company Seargent Major (CSM), 1 Company quarter Master (CQMS) and 5 Seargents to assist and support the SUO.
Training
Training on military subjects like Drill, Rifle Drill, Map Reading, Weapon Training, Field Craft and Battle Craft etc. are being imparted to the cadets as per the syllabus framed by the NCC Directorate. In addition to this, classes on personality development, anti-narcotics, community development, etc are also given. Training (parade) is given on Saturdays. 20 parades of 4-hour duration are conducted in a year.
Camps
NCC Army wing cadet can attend the following camps
- Republic Day Camp (RDC) at New Delhi
- Thal Sainik Camp (TSC) at New Delhi
- Army attachment Camp (AAC) at any of the Army bases in the country
- Basic Leadership Camp (BLC) organised at various locations in the country
- Advanced Leadership Camp (BLC) organised at various locations in the country
- Ek Bharat Sresht Bharat Camps (EBSBC) organised at various locations in the country
- Rock Climbing Camps (RCC) - Eight RCC are held each year to expose the cadets to the basics of elementary rock climbing and to inculcate spirit of adventure amongst cadets
- Hiking and Trekking Camps organised at various locations in the country
- Inter Unit (IUC), Inter Group (IGC) and Preparatory Camps – conducted to select cadets to RD Camp and TS Camp
- Annual Training Camp (ATC) organized at bn level

Advantages of Joining NCC
- NCC offers its adept cadets the lifetime memorable opportunity to march at Karthavyapath in front of the President and other dignitaries on Republic Day
- Under Youth Exchange Programme (YEP), exceptional cadets get an opportunity to visit foreign countries.
- Defence Services, Police services, Para-Military forces, Fire forces, BSF, Territorial Army, Industrial Security Forces and other uniform services give preference to NCC B & C certificate holders during recruitment
- NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders are recruited as Civilian Gliding Instructors/Girl Cadet Instructors /NCC whole time lady officers and Aero/Ship modelling instructors.
- Kerala PSC provides weightage marks to NCC cadets for the recruitment to uniform services
- Vacancies are reserved for NCC Cadets in Officer Post in Armed Forces. A direct entry to SSB interview is available for selected cadets who hold NCC C certificate with at least a B grade and 50% in graduation
- NCC cadets get an opportunity to visit new places and get new friends by attending different camps conducted across the country
- NCC cadets are eligible for grace marks in University Examinations for their participation in NCC Camps, successfully completing B/C Certificates and successfully undergoing institutional training with minimum 75% attendance.
