Department of Hindi – Profile

Language is not only for communication, but it is also a tool to understand history and culture. India, as a picture of unity in diversity, can be best seen in her rich diversified culture and heritage. This rich and diversified culture is due to a large number of languages and dialects. Hindi is the national and official language of India. Compared to other South Indian states, the learning of Hindi in the Kerala educational system is very progressive and popular.
The Department of Hindi was established in 1965. Smt.Mariamma Mathew was the first Head of the Department. Undergraduate students can select either Hindi or Malayalam as their second language. Dr Santy Joseph serves as the Head of the Department at present.
