Activities

The Department of Physical Education organize the Archbishop Kavukattu and Rev. Fr. Zacharias Punnappadom Memorial Inter-collegiate Men’s Football Tournament annually. The tournament is held every January/ February since 1990. Teams of colleges across Kerala participates in the tournament. The tournament is conducted as League Cum Knockout matches. The matches attract audience from the student community and even from the college neighbourhood.
The department has started an Inter-collegiate Women’s Football Tournament in memory of the former head of the department, Late Prof. V.M. Antony from the year 2022. The winners are awarded Late Prof. V.M. Antony memorial ever-rolling trophy and the runners up will receive Prof. V.J Valsamma ever-rolling trophy.

The department hosted an All-Kerala Volleyball Tournament in 2019. 13 well-established teams participated in the tournament. The tournament was a huge success with a great crowd turnout.
In addition to theses tournaments the department has hosted Mahatma Gandhi University level competitions for Taekwondo, Cricket, etc.
Annual Sports Meet: Annual sports meet is a colourful programme of the campus with various individual and interdepartmental competitions.
The Department of Physical Education at St. Aloysius College, Edathua, is pleased to report the successful establishment of a vibrant Sports Club at the beginning of the current academic year. This initiative has garnered significant interest and participation from the student body, with approximately 125 students actively engaging in its various activities.
A key highlight of the Sports Club’s activities this year was the organisation of cricket and football matches held as part of the Olympic Day celebrations. These events provided a platform for students to showcase their sporting talents, promote healthy competition, and foster a spirit of camaraderie within the college community. The enthusiastic participation in these matches underscores the students’ keen interest in sports and physical activity.
Furthermore, the Department of Physical Education actively facilitated the participation of talented students in university-level football and cricket competitions. This provided valuable exposure and competitive experience for our athletes, allowing them to represent St. Aloysius College on a wider platform. The dedication and skill demonstrated by our students in these higher-level competitions are commendable.
The establishment of the Sports Club and the successful execution of these sporting events mark a positive step in promoting a culture of sports and physical well-being within St. Aloysius College. The Department of Physical Education remains committed to providing opportunities for students to engage in a diverse range of sporting activities and to fostering their athletic potential. We look forward to further developing the Sports Club and expanding its activities in the coming year.
