Practical Laboratory
The Department of Zoology is well equipped with two laboratories for performing Zoology
and Aquaculture practical and students’ Research projects. Laboratory facilities include space
for teacher demonstrations, student laboratory activities, student discussion, and safe storage
space. The labs have charts and models which enhance and enrich the learning process.
Museum
The department has a well-maintained museum with a collection of about 2000 diverse animals
that belong to various phyla. A good number of fin fishes, shell fishes and sea weeds beautify
the museum.
Instrumentation Lab
The department has to its credit a well-equipped Instrumentation Lab. The available facilities
include sophisticated laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometer, Centrifuge, Laminar
Airflow chamber, Autoclave, Hot air Oven, Incubator, Binocular stereo microscopes,
Trinocular research microscope with Micro photographic facility, dissection microscopes,
electronic balance, pH meter, Refrigerator etc.
Ornamental Fish Hatchery Unit
The department has an ornamental fish hatchery with 11 concrete tanks for rearing and
breeding of fishes.
Field Study
The Department of Zoology always shows long standing commitment to provide real, hands-
on, learning opportunities for our students. Students visit biodiversity hotspots, fishing
harbours, National and state level research institutes, Wildlife sanctuaries, fish feed
manufacturing units, shrimp hatcheries, fish hatcheries, fish farms, wetlands, mangrove forests,
aquarium complex, fish processing units etc. during their three-year graduate studies.
Zoology Association
The Zoology Association stands to encourage research, education and extension activities in
Zoology. The association provides space for development of both students and faculty. It
particularly tries to inspire students to reach the frontiers of Biological Sciences. The
association conducts various activities, arrange seminars, publishes newsletters and promote
cultural activities of students.
