Rural English Literacy Programme (RELP)

The Rural English Literacy Programme (RELP), an initiative of the Department of English at St. Aloysius College, Edathua, is committed to enhancing the English language proficiency of the college’s students. In previous years, RELP has offered a 30-hour certificate course called “Open School for Better English,” designed to improve students’ communication skills and fluency in the language.
RELP also offers a skill enhancement certificate course, “Content Creation through New Media,” led by faculty from the Department of English. Additionally, RELP has conducted workshops for English teachers at higher secondary schools in and around Kuttanad. Dr. Gem Cherian, Assistant Professor in English, serves as the coordinator of RELP.
The program’s comprehensive approach aims to provide students and educators with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively communicate in English, opening doors to academic and professional opportunities. By focusing on both practical communication skills and content creation through new media, RELP equips participants with valuable skills for the modern world. Furthermore, the program’s outreach to local schools demonstrates a commitment to improving English literacy throughout the Kuttanad community.
