An orientation session on the topic “The House is Where our Heart is” was conducted by Dr. Paul Jacob on August 1, 2025, for approximately 75 students at Fr. Punnapadam Hall. The session, which began at 12:15 pm, was co-ordinated by the Vice Principal, Dr. Santy Joseph. The talk focused on the key characteristics that differentiate a house from a home, highlighting how the latter is more than just a physical structure. He emphasised that a home is a place of emotional connection, security, and shared experiences, unlike a temporary dwelling such as a hostel or a hotel. The interactive and engaging session aimed to instil a deeper appreciation for the concept of ‘home’ and the values associated with it.
A central point of discussion was the importance of shared meals and home cooking. He argued that the act of preparing and eating food together is fundamental to building a strong sense of family and community. To illustrate the negative consequences of neglecting this practice, he cited the example of what occurred in America after kitchens were abandoned in many homes. This shift led to a decline in family bonds and a loss of the communal aspect of daily life, which he suggested is a cautionary tale for modern society. The session concluded with a thought-provoking Q&A, where students actively participated, further demonstrating the relevance and impact of the topic.
